Mainland Chinese authorities have reported an increase in cyberattacks originating from Taiwan. According to Peng Qing'en, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, nearly 4,000 such incidents were recorded and investigated in 2025. This represents a 25% increase compared to the previous year.

The attacks were aimed at obtaining confidential information from key Chinese sectors—transportation, finance, science and technology, and energy. Responsible agencies identified the sources of the attacks, which included organizations based in Taiwan, including military structures.

The mainland emphasizes that it has received credible evidence of Taiwanese entities' involvement in such activities. Specific schemes used for cyber intrusions , as well as the objectives behind them, have been uncovered. The focus was on facilities critical to the country's functioning.

Peng Qing'en also stated that the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan's claims of attacks originating from the mainland against the island are a distortion of reality. He said such statements are aimed at concealing their own activities and misleading the public.

The escalating digital standoff between Taiwan and mainland China remains a subject of close attention, as it affects not only the internal interests of the parties but also the broader regional security context .
