Richard Murdaugh, an ex-lawyer from the US state of South Carolina, pleaded guilty to 22 financial crimes, most of which are related to banking and electronic fraud, as well as dirty money laundering. Reuters reports from the courtroom that the 54-year-old American agreed to pay nine million dollars in damages caused by his actions.

Murdo is currently serving two life sentences without the right to pardon for a double murder. In June 2021, he brutally shot his 52-year-old wife Maggie and 22-year-old son Paul, firing a clip of different weapons at each of them. The trial of a lawyer in South Carolina itself was dubbed the "trial of the century". However, Murdo himself did not plead guilty.

According to the prosecutor's office, the fear that they might find out about his financial fraud pushed the murder of the American's relatives. Carder needed a lot of money to maintain a posh lifestyle, and also because of drug addiction: for many years, the now former lawyer used heroin.

Murdo will be sentenced at a later date. He faces at least 20 years in prison for financial crimes, but, of course, this sentence will be combined with the existing one and will not fundamentally affect the fate of the carder.
