The closed system did not prevent the pumping of capital directly from under the nose of the guards.

Apple has urgently removed two controversial applications from the App Store, and both cases hit the reputation of the store’s moderation. We are talking about a fake crypto wallet, through which users lost millions of dollars, and the Freecash service, suspected of collecting sensitive data under the guise of easy earnings.
According to CoinDesk, the fake Ledger Live app appeared in the App Store on April 7 and in just a few days managed to steal at least 50 people. The owners of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Tron and XRP suffered. Three users lost particularly large sums, including more than $ 3.2 million in USDT, over $2 million in USDC and nearly $2 million in Bitcoin, Ethereum and stETH.
Traces of funds allegedly led to replenishment addresses on KuCoin, associated with the service for confusing cryptocurrency transfers. After the release of the material, Apple removed the fake Ledger Live, and then closed the developer’s account.
Almost simultaneously, Apple removed from the store and Freecash. According to TechCrunch, this application was actively promoted in TikTok by promises of earnings for watching rollers, but in fact the model was built on the exchange of personal data for a reward. The service collected information about health, religion, race, sexual life and other sensitive data, and then used such information to select a mobile game audience and promotional offers.
Additional questions were raised by the history of Freecash itself. An earlier version of the application released by Almedia GmbH was removed from the App Store in mid-2024. Later, the existing Rewards application from Cyprus 256 Rewards Ltd was renamed Freecash, after which the program rose to the top lines of the ratings.
Journalists suggested that the return passed through another developer’s account bypassing previous restrictions. Apple after the appeal of the publication removed Freecash and blocked the developer’s account, citing violations of the rules against deception, unscrupulous schemes and deceptive actions.
Apple recalled that last year alone rejected or removed more than 17 thousand applications for changing the essence of the service, more than 320 thousand assemblies for spam and deceptive techniques, and also blocked more than 37 thousand potentially fraudulent programs even before their publication. However, recent incidents show that even with such scales of filtration, dangerous applications still find their way to the “Apple store”.
