Storage Period for Internet Messages to Be Extended to Three Years

Online information distribution organizers (OIDO) may soon be required to store data on the receipt, transmission, delivery, and processing of users' electronic messages, as well as details about users and the messages themselves, for a period of three years.

According to TASS, a new bill proposes amending the law "On Information, Information Technologies, and Information Protection" to introduce this requirement. The initiative aims to strengthen measures against phone fraud.

The OIDO registry includes major platforms such as VK, Odnoklassniki, Yandex, HeadHunter, as well as forums like Pikabu and Habr. Additionally, popular messaging services such as Telegram, Skype, Wire, Element, and WhatsApp would also be subject to this regula
tion.
