L3Harris begins supplying high-precision devices to the US Marines

American defense company L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a contract to develop, test, and manufacture Red Wolf systems for the U.S. Marine Corps' Precision Attack Strike Munition program. The contractor was selected by Naval Air Systems Command. According to the military, Red Wolf is intended to fill a gap in the supply of long-range, precision-guided munitions that can be deployed in large numbers and at a lower cost than expensive, individual munitions.
L3Harris Technologies CEO Christopher Kubasik stated that the experience of recent NATO airspace incidents and conflicts, amid the widespread use of unmanned aerial vehicles, demonstrates the urgent need for more affordable alternatives to "exclusive" munitions. The company claims that Red Wolf will allow the Marines to increase the "low-cost mass" of precision-guided weapons in their arsenal within the specified timeframe. The article also provides a link to a disassembly of the Dark Eagle missile.
The Navy's selection is based on a series of 52 launch effects test flights, including a recent low-altitude test launch from a US Marine Corps Bell AH-1Z Viper helicopter. Last July, L3Harris Technologies also unveiled two new long-range variants, Red Wolf and Green Wolf, positioning them as more cost-effective strike options amid the replenishment of weapons stockpiles and the strengthening of China's deterrence in the Pacific.
The "wolf pack" concept is described as a collection of multi-role vehicles that can be integrated and launched from air, land, or sea platforms via standard interfaces. In addition to kinetic strike, the stated roles include electronic warfare, target tracking, jamming and decoy deployment, and communications relay. The company emphasizes modularity and advanced software for in-flight collaboration, retargeting, and swarm scenario support, as well as the ability to create a re-entry version. It is specifically noted that Red Wolf is currently the only launched effect vehicle successfully deployed from a Marine Corps Bell AH-1Z Viper.

The US Marine Corps previously tested the Red Wolf long-range munition, developed by L3Harris Technologies. During the test over the Atlantic Proving Ground, the munition was launched from a Bell AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter and struck a naval target.
Red Wolf is designed to increase the operational range of helicopters and allow crews to operate from a safer distance. In addition to its strike role, the system can also serve as a reconnaissance and networking node, collecting and transmitting target data and performing non-kinetic tasks, including relaying communications, electronic warfare, and acting as a decoy.
According to the report, Red Wolf is a turbojet-powered aircraft approximately 1.8 meters long with a payload of up to 11.4 kg and capable of staying airborne for over an hour. Since 2020, it has undergone dozens of flight tests on various platforms, and operational entry is expected in 2026.
