A lot of people gave up on expired domains after all the Google updates. That was a mistake.
Expired domains still work. The people saying they do not are usually the ones who never learned how to pick them properly.

Why This Myth Started
Google got better at catching lazy expired domain setups. People were buying any old domain and pointing it at unrelated sites. That stopped working. So everyone assumed expired domains were dead. They are not. The bad strategy is dead.

What Actually Transfers When You Buy One
A good expired domain brings three things with it.

1. Age and history that Google already trusts
2. Real backlinks from sites that are still active
3. Topical authority if the niche matches yours

All three of these take months or years to build from scratch. A good expired domain gives you a head start.

How to Tell if an Expired Domain is Worth Buying
Check the organic traffic history in Ahrefs. If it had real traffic before it expired that means Google trusted it. Check referring domains and make sure the links come from real sites with actual visitors. Open Wayback Machine and confirm the niche never changed. If it was always in your niche the authority is relevant and clean.

The Real Problem
Most people buy expired domains based on DR alone. DR can be faked easily. Traffic history cannot.

Find domains with real traffic history in your niche and you will see they still work very well.
