In the Turkish Samsun at a meeting of the municipal council there was a participant who is more eager to see at the exhibition of robotics, and not among local deputies. The man-like robot CANIKMAN entered the hall. According to the mayor of the district Janik Ibrahim Sandykchi, the robot followed the discussion, communicated with the participants and answered the questions of the council members.

The May session was held on May 5. CANIKMAN took part in the opening meeting of the Janica Municipal Council and became the first humanoid robot in Turkey to be registered in the population accounting system. For local authorities, the appearance of a robot in the council hall is not associated with a one-time demonstration, but with a program for the development of technologies, education and digital infrastructure of the district.

At the meeting, investments in Janik, infrastructure projects and educational programs were discussed. The meeting was led by Sandykchi. After the session, the mayor said that the council held a May meeting with the participation of municipal deputies, and expressed hope that the decisions taken will help the district.

In the photos, CANIKMAN stands in front of the council members, walks through the hall, sits next to the officials during the vote and shakes the hand of one of the participants after the meeting. The municipality serves the robot not as a spectacular toy for press releases, but as part of working with children and teenagers.

CANIKMAN is already involved in scientific and technological workshops for schoolchildren throughout the area. The robot is also used on the Ozdemir Bayraktar opening campus in Janik. There are children and young people study STEM-directions for free: natural sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics. According to Sandykchi, the municipality wants the new generation to get acquainted with modern technologies through practice, and not only through textbooks and presentations.

A separate part of the May meeting concerned digital infrastructure. The Council discussed technological and infrastructure projects, and the authorities announced a new agreement to expand the fiber-optic Internet. The project should give access to the fiber of about 20 000 households in the municipality.

The story with CANIKMAN fits into Turkey’s broader technology course. In recent years, the country has invested in the aerospace industry, defense, artificial intelligence and training in robotics. The company AKINROBOTICS of the Horse back in 2017 launched the company, which called the world's first factory of humanoid robots. There are robots for medicine, hotel business and education.

Turkey’s technological agenda is closely linked to the defense industry. The head of the defense industry Secretariat, Halo Görgun, said that exports of defense and aerospace products last year reached $ 10.5 billion and covered 185 countries. Turkey expects to soon exceed $ 11 billion and enter the top ten world’s largest exporters in this area.

CANIKMAN does not vote or replace officials. But the meeting in Samsun showed how humanoid robots gradually go beyond laboratories, exhibitions and classrooms. In Janik, the robot is already working with children, and now appeared in the hall where roads, education, the Internet and the development of the district are being discussed.
