One stupid mistake was enough to jeopardize the interests of the biggest players.

Japan has warned national companies about the risks of technology and confidential data leakage when participating in Ukraine's reconstruction. Authorities have also drawn attention to potential threats associated with the use of Huawei equipment in 5G networks.

According to sources, the Japanese government is discussing the issue in the context of economic security. The reason for this is Huawei's activity in the Ukrainian telecom market. Previously, one of Ukraine's largest telecom operators conducted 5G trials using Chinese equipment and received frequencies from the government for further network development.

Tokyo believes that Huawei's infrastructure expansion in Kyiv and other major cities could pose serious risks to foreign investment. This primarily concerns projects in critical sectors such as energy and transportation, where Japan, European countries, and the United States plan to invest.

Japanese authorities are concerned about the possible presence of hidden mechanisms in Huawei equipment that could theoretically allow access to transmitted information. The US previously placed the company on sanctions lists specifically due to suspicions of cyberespionage .

An additional concern is the potential for sanctions to be circumvented through third countries. Government documents mention the risk that Chinese technology could enter the market through Turkish companies.

Ukrainian authorities have previously expressed their reluctance to allow Chinese firms to participate in the country's reconstruction. However, Japan admits that the involvement of such companies could be discreet and gradually expand.

Against this backdrop, plans to support Ukrainian infrastructure from Japan, Europe, and the United States could face new obstacles if the country's telecom sector becomes closely tied to Chinese suppliers.
