Compression without risk — the new version of 7-Zip takes care of your system.

As of August 3, 2025, a new version of the 7-Zip archiver, version 25.01, is available. Developer Igor Pavlov has focused this release on enhancing security when handling symbolic links.

Now, when extracting archives containing such links, strict verification is enforced. By default, operations involving the creation of symbolic links are blocked, preventing the execution of potentially dangerous actions. For users who require support for symbolic links, a dedicated command-line option -snld20 is available to bypass the restriction.

If you've already installed 7-Zip 25.00, you’ve likely noticed performance improvements. The previous version brought a significant speed boost: up to 40% faster compression with the bzip2 format, up to 3% for deflate, expanded support for ZIP, CPIO, and FAT archives, and improved performance on multi-processor systems with more than 64 threads. Known vulnerabilities were also patched.

7-Zip remains free and open-source, distributed under the GNU LGPL license, and is available for Windows (x64, x86, ARM64), Linux, and macOS. From the official website 7-zip.org, you can download EXE and MSI installers, the console version, source code, and a plugin for FAR Manager.

The update is strongly recommended for all users — especially those who frequently work with archives, automate processing, or want to ensure the safety of extracted data.
