Developer Igor Pavlov has released an update to the popular free archiver 7-Zip. The new version, version 26.00, is available for download from the project's official website for various platforms, including Windows (64-bit x64, 32-bit x86, and ARM64), Linux (x86-64, x86, ARM64, and ARM), and macOS.
Key changes in 7-Zip 26.00 include improved code for working with the ZIP, CPIO, RAR, UFD, QCOW, and Compound formats. The 7-Zip file manager now uses the file name as a secondary sort key.
The developers also improved the built-in benchmark to support systems with more than 64 processor threads. This is especially relevant for modern server systems and high-performance workstations.
Fixed a bug that prevented 7-Zip from correctly extracting TAR archives containing sparse files. A number of other bugs have also been fixed.
