While the report doesn't reveal the dark secrets of the underground criminal organization, it is nonetheless quite useful as a systematic overview.
Researchers divide a typical Anonymous attack on a victim's resource into three parts:
⏺(Days 1-18) Recruitment and Coordination. During this stage, using social media, a group of leaders assembles the future team and organizes it to coordinate actions.
⏺(Days 19-22) Reconnaissance and the actual attack. During this period, a group of skilled hackers, carefully concealing their activities, searches for weaknesses on the target resource using tools such as Acunetix and/or Havij. If security holes are discovered, the attackers exploit them and steal the desired data, disabling the target resource if they deem it necessary (for example, StratFor was down for about two weeks after the theft of correspondence).
⏺(Days 24-25) DDOS attack. During this stage, which typically follows the failure of the data theft, Anonymous volunteers use tools such as the Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC) to carry out the actual DDOS attack, including through mobile browsers.
