Iranian hacker groups have significantly intensified their digital hunt for Israelis. High-ranking officials, security forces, scientists, journalists, and other public figures are now in their sights. Hundreds of hacking attempts have been recorded over the past year, and a significant number of attacks have been stopped at an early stage.

This was reported by the Israeli General Security Service and the National Cyber Directorate. According to them, the number of operations linked to Iranian intelligence has increased sharply in recent months. A particularly noticeable spike occurred after the 12-day armed conflict between Iran and Israel in June.

The primary goal of attackers is to obtain personal and professional information. This data can be used for reconnaissance, sabotage, and influence campaigns. Spear phishing is most commonly used . Attackers research the victim's interests and social circle, then contact them under the guise of acquaintances or business contacts, offering a meeting or sending a link to a file.

A separate trend has been the increase in attempts to hack personal Google accounts and messaging apps on phones. Users are sent fake messages, purporting to be from services or acquaintances, asking them to enter their password and an additional confirmation code. Once they obtain this information, the attackers gain complete control over the account and its messages.

Security services reported that they were able to prevent hundreds of such attacks through joint efforts. In response to the hacking campaign, users were sent targeted warnings, suspicious connections were checked, unknown access to accounts was disabled, and instructions on how to strengthen their security were provided. Digital security training programs were also launched.

The authorities recommend strengthening security settings on Google services, messaging apps, and social media. This includes enabling two-step login verification , adding a backup email address, and regularly checking linked accounts. They also recommend special enhanced security modes available for people working with sensitive information. Users are also urged to be wary of any suspicious messages and links.
