According to him, the attackers lured users to phishing pages, which they promoted in Google search and advertising in X. In total, they created 10,072 fake sites. Peak activity occurred in May, June and November.

Among the promoted campaigns were announcements of the Ordinals Bubbles NFT giveaway and airdrops supposedly from various famous projects.

The main losses were suffered by Ethereum and Arbitrum holders. The damage to one of the victims amounted to $24 million.

ScamSniffer found that 60% of phishing ads in X used this malicious script to steal digital assets. Its creators also sold the source code of the tool to third-party cybercriminals.
