$50 for a Fake Video, $30 for a Voice: How Deepfakes are Traded in Real-Time on the Darknet

Kaspersky Lab has uncovered new AI-based schemes used by fraudsters.

Experts from Kaspersky Lab have discovered advertisements on the darknet for services creating real-time video and audio deepfakes. The cost of such services starts at $50 for video and $30 for a voice deepfake. The analysis was conducted on Russian- and English-language resources. The company announced this at the Kaspersky CyberSecurity Weekend 2025 conference in Minsk.

While specialists had previously noted similar services, the criminals are now offering real-time generation of fake content, and prices have become lower. The advertisements describe various scenarios: face replacement during video calls and in messengers, using deepfakes to bypass verification, and substituting the image from a phone's camera or a virtual device.

The authors of these offers claim to have tools for synchronizing speech and lip movements, as well as programs for cloning and altering voices. However, a significant portion of these advertisements could themselves be fraudulent, aimed at extracting money from interested users.

Specialists note that on shadow platforms, there is not only a supply but also a demand for such services. Furthermore, more complex tools are emerging, including local malicious language models, which expands the capabilities of attackers.

The company reiterates protective measures: check the level of cybersecurity within an organization and the skills of specialists, train employees to recognize deepfakes, and use specialized solutions. Typical signs of fake content include image distortions, jerky movements, poor synchronization of speech and lip movements, sharp changes in lighting, and video quality that is lower than usual.
